An honest guide to the whole market, including the products we do not sell.
A medical alert bracelet tells a stranger the one thing about you that matters in an emergency: a condition, a critical allergy, or who to phone. Paramedics are trained to look at the wrist. This guide covers the whole South African market, from engraved jewellery and the MedicAlert registry to printed silicone bands, and is honest about which one fits which person, including the many cases where our own product is not the answer.
Less is more, because a first responder reads it in seconds. The convention is the condition or allergy first, in plain words: diabetic, epileptic, allergic to penicillin. Then an emergency contact number, often marked ICE, for in case of emergency. Leave out anything a stranger does not need. If there is more to know than fits on a band, a band that says where to look, such as a wallet card, does the job.
A registry service. MedicAlert South Africa is a non-profit that pairs an engraved emblem with a managed medical record and an emergency phone line. For a complex history, multiple medications, or a condition where responders need real records, this is the right product and we say so plainly. We are not a registry and our bands carry no records.
Engraved metal jewellery. ICE tags and medical jewellery shops sell single stainless or sterling bracelets, engraved to order. Permanent, smart, priced as jewellery, and the natural choice for one adult wearing it daily for years.
Printed silicone bands. Waterproof, comfortable for sport and school, legible, and cheap enough to replace without a second thought. The trade-off is that printed wording sits on the surface and eventually wears, so it suits bands that are reissued, not heirlooms. Silicone is what we make, and only in bulk: the minimum is 250 bands per design.
Schools printing allergy or asthma bands for camps and tours. Frail-care and assisted-living homes identifying residents. Event medical teams colour-coding attendees who declared a condition. Support groups and charities giving members a band that starts the right conversation. If that is your order, the medical ID wristbands page covers the detail and a written quote takes a day.
Buy from MedicAlert, an ICE tag supplier or a medical jewellery shop; each sells singles and publishes prices on its own site. We do not sell single bands, and pretending otherwise would waste your afternoon.
Child and youth sizes exist across all three kinds. For children the silicone band has a practical edge: it survives the pool and the playground, it does not open, and losing one costs cents to fix when ordered in bulk. A correctly sized band turns freely on the wrist without slipping over the hand. Wording for a child's band should carry the condition and a parent's number, nothing else.

Simple ordering
Five steps from idea to delivery. We do the fiddly parts.
Choose your wristband style, colour, quantity and size — or just describe what you are trying to achieve and let us suggest the right combination.
Upload your logo, artwork or wording. Anything from a print-ready vector file to a rough sketch is a fine starting point.
We prepare a digital proof showing how your wristband will look. Nothing is produced until you have approved it.
We raise an invoice, and payment — or a deposit — is requested. Once that is received your wristbands go into production and we confirm your dispatch date.
Your finished wristbands are delivered to the address on your order, with tracking where the service provides it.
Questions
Our minimum order quantity is 250 bands per design. Below that the set-up cost per band becomes uneconomical for you rather than for us. If you need a smaller run, tell us on your quote request and we will let you know what is possible.
Four things set the price: the finish, the number of colours, the quantity and the delivery destination. The price per band falls steeply as the quantity rises, the minimum run is 250 bands, a 50% deposit is paid on proof approval, and we do not charge VAT. The wristband prices page explains each cost in detail, and a written quotation for your exact order arrives within one working day.
Yes. Silicone is a stable, skin-friendly material that contains no latex, so it avoids the most common wristband allergy. It is waterproof and easy to wash. The full answer, including advice for young children, is on our silicone safety page.
Adult, youth and child sizes, in widths from slim to extra wide. The exact circumferences and widths are shown on the quote page as you build your band.
Production takes 5 days to 3 weeks from the moment you approve your artwork proof and we receive payment, depending on the quantity ordered — a small run moves quickly, a large one takes longer. We confirm the dates in writing before you commit, so you know when the bands will be in your hands rather than just when they leave us.
Tell us what you need and we will send you a written quotation — no obligation, no pressure.
